O discovery delayed
by the imperative of seeing.

I became a myth more radiant than any
and, sculpted in dusk, I am and am not, but I am.

An urge to sing, but so intense
I hold my tongue, replete.

Your father was lost in the world.
The world is large and small.

I saw other riddles
like so many flowers
abloom in the void.

But time and the idea of the past
surprise you in the curve of a garden.

I felt that he forgave me,
but he didn't say anything.

and you know, when you sleep, the problems stop requiring you to die.

Flesh that fears to grow old calls on the Devil
And asks him for consolation. The Devil listens
To the flesh's thousand forms of past energy
The flesh smiles again, in the vain hope
Of feeling forever that which was the grace
Of love in flower

This is the poetry I’m currently reading to my teenage lover, who listens rapturously to my every word as I recite from memory the opening lines of Flesh That Is Shamed.
