Status Updates From Make Your Home Among Strangers

DNF at 55%. I cannot listen to this book anymore. I read a detailed summary of the story, and that was enough. This book had moments that caused me to think critically about politics, prejudice, culture, family, and identity but they were few and far between. It all felt surface level. Although I sympathized with them, I found these characters so hard to relate to/root for. This book tried, but it wasn’t for me.

I keep going back and forth with this one. Mainly, I think it has great potential but the execution is not doing it for me so far. I have hope but am equally as wary.

This is a book that has been on my TBR since I was in college. It was the first year summer read for the class of 2020, and I was intrigued by the premise when my world geography professor talked about it. I’m reading it or unhauling it. Currently, let’s see if I make it beyond the 25% mark. I’m uncertain … it has potential but I also have lots of other books to read.
