That story was lovely, and not just in pretty-words-tedious-reading kind of way, but with an actually enjoyable story.

That’s an illuminating insight—Puerto Rico theoretically becoming a state does not grant it and its citizens respect in the eyes of the rest of the United States of America. Those being its colonial empire. Perhaps if they became their own country.

I loved what that story had to say about freedom, but I think I’ll like this story about vampires more.

I wonder if, secondhand, the importance of telling children frightening stories about el Cuco, el Viejo de la Bolsa, La Llorona, and their brothers and sisters, was not only to teach children good manners but to teach them gratitude for what they had when they had little. These monsters were the children’s weapons and guardians more so than they were just their parents’ teaching tools.

I didn’t expect that to be who Marta was to Esther. It seems that everything is being stolen from Esther.

That one felt more like a horror story—I didn’t expect it to end as happily as it did, but the macabre greenery of el duende’s mental harvest was spellbinding.
