We have travelled through the era of Mansa Musa and the Kingdoms of West Africa (including Timbuktu in Mali), and Tippu Tib and the first enslavers (a harrowing chapter)

This is a very fact-heavy book, so I don't always pick up on all the details, but every now and then a bit of information jumps out at me:
King Micipsa's brother, Prince Mastanabal, won gold in the Olympic chariot racing around 164 or 168 BC as one of the first non-Greek, royal competitors. The timeline overlap between Numidian Kings and Greek influence is something I just haven't quite got my head around!

Really interesting learning about the overlap between Sudanese and Nubian (Egyptian) history. It's incredible to think about just how much history is yet to be uncovered in that region.
