"She's just shy"
For every autistic girl who's parents are told that, my heart breaks. And for my 12 yo (boy) family member who started Year 7 this week and joked about how lonely he is at recess & lunch, I am shattered. Being diagnosed as a child doesn't stop the pain. I know things will be better for him as he grows, but right now I cry for him, and child me who felt how lonely it was (only sometimes)
