Status Updates From Of the Sun and Sea

The way Ryder’s grief parallels Marina’s the beginning is so good. Marina is still grieving but she’s different and the full circle moment is painfully good.

That last name hurt. :(

“Is this how all great wars end? With the opposing sides at a table, drinking wine?” Actual chills. I hate Kieron but he has some amazingly written lines.

Oh my god that was such a good chapter I am so shocked and devastated. Kieron is horrible!

I am so glad Book 2 is included. I wish this was more common for series. I was reading too fast to note my thoughts but I am sad about one character and curious to see where Marina will go now that she knows the true reason she holds the Omnia, still SO cool, I cannot get over that.

WOAH what! My brain is boggled and I have goosebumps - What a tremendous twist and beautiful peak to Marina’s arc!

At this point I cannot stop reading. The stakes are so high and I have no idea what Marina is about to do. Kieron is a scarily good manipulator and the way he veils it all as if he is trying to help her!

2 main thoughts. 1, I am absolutely floored about Pierce and the soldier. 2, I hate Ocot more than I thought I could.

Now that I know Aeric’s full backstory I am heartbroken and things make so much more sense! Marina saying she forgives him shows such growth for them both. I love their dynamic. They started out at odds and slowly a deep mutual respect has formed. Enemies to… Allies? Friends?

I am happy about the development between Marina and Aeric. I still can’t believe she stabbed him with garden sheers even if she was out of it! The memories were a neat way to see into Aeric’s past and understand snippets of his backstory. He is much more sympathetic… I am also glad Marina and Pierce reconciled. Double Moon and Ocot made me stressed!

Gosh the world building and character work in this book is great. I feel like it could be a real world with real history and real people. I like how everything is spaced out enough to not seem like too much while not skimping over details. The balance and the ongoing tension makes it un-put-down-able!

“Try me again, and I’ll not think twice about leaving you with only your thoughts to keep you company. […] And what terrible company that would be.” Ouch! Aeric is such a jerk! But I mean that in the best of ways because I love these characters. Poor Marina, her adjustment has been going poorly enough.

One thing I am really appreciating is the depiction of depression. The way it is depicted is so accurate, Marina does not make likable choices but she is very real and her suffering is not watered down.

The map at the beginning of this book is beautiful!
