really liking this - not just a coming of age story of a young farm girl growing up in France during the revolution but also showing how the events of 1789 impacted all social classes differently through its large cast of diverse characters and myriad of subplots

this type of epic social novel seems to have been a very popular genre in 19th century France, now that I think of it
