why are there so many brand placements in this. i suppose it would be more evocative for millenials like bunny, but it’s just a little alienating? i guess? like i have no idea what shade “OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques!” is. why can’t you just tell me the shade. i don’t know what brand of bag you just named. just describe it!!!

Fire. Absolutely hate bunny right now she’s so insufferable but I imagine that’s for a purpose.

this book is super funny and tasteful so far. Super political and invested in oil extraction as well as issues of gender and class. I LOVE how Kiesling makes this a book about extraction through the coming of age of an adolescent girl.

i went into this thinking the overall connecting thread of the narrative was going to be Azerbaijan but that is not correct; the connecting thread is just oil. i’m still enjoying this but not nearly as much as i would have been if the connecting thread HAD been Azerbaijan so
