Crazy to see the scene from the bear hunt where Chief is part of a separate part of this original version of the story too.

It's neat to see how Disney will take scenes and set pieces, completely remove their context, yet still make a compelling story from it. The entire bear scene happens within the first chapter as a chase after a man-killing bear, yet in the movie becomes the foil of the hunt after Tod and an emotional fracturing of the friendship bond in the movie.

Bear! Oh my!

The dog, Copper, is near sighted. Make note.

Tod learned three valuable lessons from that terrible day which had climaxed with a string of shot in his hide that itched him for a long time afterward. 🦊

Very sentimental, I feel strongly for these animals.

Tod was quite willing to retreat. Although the vixen's odor and behavior had attracted him, he was curious rather than lustful, and would have had little idea how to proceed even if this stranger had not arrived.

This was no vixen, but a dog fox like himself.

The great black animal had backed up against a fallen tree so.... He stood there swinging his head back and forth, champing his jaws as the dogs rushed at him by turns. The whole place was filled with his powerful odor, but there was no scent of fear.

There was a young Trigg hound named Chief, an excellent tracker and brave fighter who was the Master’s favorite. Copper hated Chief with a hatred surpassing the hatred of a jealous woman.
