I don’t really understand why we’re in Ireland as it goes against what the author appears to be building.
However, I’m more disturbed that Alvin used his power falsely in the scene with the papers and credited it to God.

The Native American prophet is voiced by the male narrator with an “accent” and it sounds reminiscent of 1940s-50s stagecoach/cowboy movie stereotype. I feel similarly about the character of Lebanese descent and others.

Frequent conversation between men and women turns into talk about making babies - enough to be considered an obsession. It’s hard to ignore even when I’m only this far into the story.
References to anatomy that leans toward crass and is completely unnecessary to the story or character development.
Audiobook in concert is a positive and helpful to the story.

Margaret, despite being a leader in the town, feels she has the job of keeping Alvin happy and everyone in the town happy with him.
Alvin is near-worshipped by the people in the town to the point where it sits unpleasantly in my stomach.
So far, everything is situational with regard to plot and I’m not really connecting with any of the characters.
