The way it switched POV from the dad to the kid, really helps us see how generation gaps exist and ultimately everyone just wants to do their best. BUT, i would say Wei Ming is a jerk. Ah Hock got reasons to be a jerk, Wei Ming does not. Or maybe because Wei Ming is portrayed as someone who understands his own mistakes so I kinda got annoyed at HIS mistakes, where Ah Hock does not realize it so I cannot get into it.

Even though it is set in Malaysia, I found it so relatable as a Singaporean. I especially loved the little details about Teochew culture the food, tea culture and family traditions. Even the Manglish felt familiar because of how similar it is to Singlish.
This book just felt so warm, familiar and comforting. Such a simple story, but somehow so good🥹
