Status Updates From Hemlock

I can't pinpoint when it happened, but I am deeply in love with this book now. The slow, super-interior voice that surprised me so much early on is now something I relish.

There's so much about Sam that I can't really relate to, and yet she still feels so very familiar to me. Like someone I could have been, if things had gone just a little differently. A version of myself spied in the mirror through cracked eyes.

She makes me angry, frustrated. But I also keep hoping for her.

This has been painfully good so far.

Hi. Hello. I have no idea what is happening and I love it. Is she just constantly drunk? Is she sleep deprived and hallucinating? Is she succumbing to some sort of hereditary mental illness? Is she a werewolf?

This book is deeply weird in so many ways. I am having a great time.

Dunno if I'm just out of the literary speculative mode or what, but that felt like a long 23 pages to finally feel clicked into the book. Hoping I settle into it a bit more from here.
