don't know if I can finish :/ why is there barely any mention of Soviet food and it's history 🙈 every reflection in this memoir drips with bitterness. it seems like food is the only source of longing, but there hasn't been a food tale since the first chapter. might take a break and come back to this

beginning the book complaining from the perspective of your childhood, the dismal rations received in the ussr, to then immigrate to the US and juxtapose trying foods such as baloney and Velveeta cheese and being absolutely disgusted and nostalgically missing the rations is hilarious.
