Status Updates From Backwardness

Progress is slow and steady. The best parts are when she eats at Burger King.

Glad I kept the faith with this one. The spell is revealing itself to me, and its so worth it (expecting a fully dejected "what the fuck even is this book I hate it" update in 2-3 days)

Reading this one very periodically and slowly... I rly can't tell what the spell is on this one - she's JUST getting burgers from the nastiest restaurants you can imagine, but there are moments where it's so intoxicating that I can't imagine reading anything else

The first and shortest segement, first love. (The next 5 segments average 150 pages each)
I’m putting my head under this book and slowly getting crushed. Ralli has recommended an article about Lutz to me last winter, and while since March I have left the specific frozen life that I led, this book is still a little close to home.

Opening section of ‘Sixtier’ was some pretty affecting stuff.

“In this town, there is a good Burger King at one end and a bad Burger King at the other. I have become a regular at both.” 🙂‍↕️

…by the time you got [a mirror] home from the store, it had already seen enough. By the time you got the thing mounted…it was hardly the most reliable instrument for self-inspection. You had to take into account its exhaustion after having had to catch and then throw back and endorse so much overparticularized difference in passersby.

among the McDonald's aristocracy of dementia and despair, those crustaceous golden-agers, who, having been flushed out of their oubliettes and dovecotes and cocklofts for the afternoon, bivouac in booths and cup their chins in their palms. Hollow-eyed and cherry-nosed, they marinate in their gastric juices, hourly renewing vengeful vows and occasionally stirring to buy a soft-serve cone or petition for a cup of ice.

My private life is so private, even I myself am never privy to all that much of it.
