A very well reached and informative read.I 've given this book five stars because it kept me engaged and taught me so much I didn't know about these black leaders that relentlessly fought for equality. There are short chapters on each person' life so dont need to read book in order.Ttese people could have crossed over at anytime but didnt.Regardless of all they faced, they stayed true to their race Highly recommend.

This is one of those books where I have to research while I read: Walter White, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr and Robert Purvis.

"The legal notion of hypodescent has been upheld as recently as 1985, when a Louisiana court ruled that a woman with a black great-great-great-grandmother could not identify herself as 'white' on her passport."
