On the other hand, it's a really good read and the descriptions are vague enough that you really can't tell if it's east or west Texas. No landscape description at all, with or without trees...

Takes place in Liberty, Texas. Liberty County is in East Texas, in the Piney Woods. So is the town of Liberty. In fact, the town is close enough to Houston that it's in the metropolitan area. And this book acts like it's out west, near Lubbock. Doesn't work for me.
