Status Updates From Getting Real

Liking this book better now.

I find the description of Miss America to be a bit more inspiring. I like this part. I sort of like her description of weight. But I think it is unfathomable that she says she wanted to stay “chubby” to make sure she had a flaw, so everyone wouldn’t hate her. I also thought “being burdened by my talent” was incredibly egotistical. I understand the rigor of being successful at an instrument, but…

I am struggling to get into this book. I understand the violin is a HUGE part of her story and she was clearly very talented. I respect that. But something about her writing style feels overly self aggrandizing. It exceeds self confidence or narration—I think. I never really felt that way whenever I was reading Kelly’s “Settle for More,” which is the only other female political book I’ve read so far

I’m restarting this book bc I bought it a while ago, and I figure it’ll be a quick read to add to my reading challenge. I really don’t like it so far, though. Seems a bit pretentious and shallow.
