Interesting, at times, as I have progressed beyond articles on birdsong to articles on primates: monkeys, lesser apes (gibbons), and am now moving into the great apes. To think that there are scientists out there hanging around zoos listening to gibbon couples singing duets. That would be another study.

The articles on this book tend to be short, narrow in focus and technical. So far they have been quite understandable and interesting. I'm becoming a specialist in birdsong without actually hearing the birds. (Although the wonderful cacophony outside my window every morning gives me some idea.)

Reading the first chapter of this book was painful. The editors take themselves and their task far too seriously. I can only hope that the authors of some of the following articles actually remember that they like music and lighten up.
