I love this section - focusing on the third major division of the epistle - the nature and development of Christian love. Hiebert continuous to meticulously dissect John's First letter almost each word and line. He labors expertly though bounces between the TR and the CT (almost always favoring the CT). Snippets of rich truths are peppered throughout. The read through is enjoyable but this is more so a reference tool

Heibert very much favors the critical text readings over the Textus Receptus (TR). He attributes much of the changes in the Greek texts as scribal efforts. Though he favors the Critical Texts (CT), he still presents a fair view of what a TR/KJV (at times NASB) interpretation would look like, while volleying back to the CT. Sometimes he combines slightly varying views making his observations moot. Quite funny.

Very good explanation of the grammar behind the text (Hiebert uses the KJV and TR but also points out variant readings and explains the critical text at certain junctions). I do appreciate that this commentary uses the KJV as the standard English text.

Dr. Hiebert brings it. Vast resources are cited while bringing out his own personal observations. The Introduction covers form, authorship, readers, occasion, place and date, purpose, and character and contents all make for a good summary and overview of the Part 1: 1st John. The "Famous Interpolation" (Johannine Comma) [part 4 under contents] presents a number of reasons why he rejects it. I don't agree with him.
