Lee snorted. “Yeah, I’m sure, and waterboarding is just a fun sport.”

He shook the thought away; it wasn’t as if he had any plans of smoking anyways.
It was bad for your health, whether there was a sniper involved or not.

With that, she let go of his arm and spun on her heels, nearly taking out one of his eyes with her ponytail.

Hesitantly, Lee did as he was told. But when he sat down, the chair tried to eat him.

Roughly four more chapters to go, and they're coming quickly!

“No matter what Pierson might have thought, I’m not psychic, so I wouldn’t know if you wanted to know or not,” Lee said as they place the table up against the door, and it wasn’t a moment too soon. Because just a second later Quinn’s men started to bang against the door and they both stepped back. “Well, now do we just wait for them to figure out there’s another entrance into here?” Lee asked.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Cole spat. “Stop and face me like a man, you little stupid boy!”
“Certaines personnes sont stupides, d'autres doivent agir comme elles sont,” Lee mumbled under his breath as he slowly turning back around and faced them. “Why are you doing this, Cole? What exactly did I do?”

It caught my attention because he was talking in Russian.”
Russian? Oh, boy. “This ‘kid’, you wouldn’t happen to know this name, would you?” Winfield asked.
“Yeah, I think he called him Murphy,” she said, nodding. “It was definitely Murphy. Why do you ask?”
“Just so I know to keep an eye out for him,” Winfield said. “When I am forced to work with the kids myself.”
“Just hope you never meet him.”

“I’m kind of in a hurry,” Lee said, then he sighed when the thugs moved closer to him and began to pound their fists against their palms. “I’m sorry,” Lee said. “That came out nicer than I meant for it to.”
“I bet you’ve got some money on you, Richy,” the boy (who was obviously the leader) said, stepping towards Lee.
“My name is not ‘Richy’ and trust me, you don’t want to do that,” Lee said.

Wallis threw his hands up in defeat. “How are you so good at this game?!” he asked, shaking his head at Lee.
“How are you two so bad?” Lee asked, smirking as he leaned back against the couch. “I guess I’m just the best there is.” Wallis looked at him weirdly and Lee frowned. “What?”
“I’m sorry,” Wallis said, quickly turning away. “But for a second there I got deja vu. Have we met before?”

“Could you really have broken his wrist so… so easily?”
“He sure thought I could, did he?”
“Yeah!”
Neither of them noticed he hadn’t given them an answer. It truth, it would have been pretty easy compared to most things he had to do. People broke wrists all the time, it wasn’t that hard. The tricky part was learning how not to break a wrist, especial when falling from tall heights. Like Lee sometimes tended to do.

A part of him wondered how badly he‘d messed up his son’s life because of something that might happen. The other part of Winfield reasoned that ‘something’ might very well be upon them.
Winfield rested his forehead against one of the tree trunks and closed his eyes. He knew the FBI was probably watching him, but he doubted they cared if he had a mental breakdown in front of them or not.

“How was school?” Winfield asked as they started down the road away from the school.
Lee laughed. “Don’t even try to make this sound like a normal thing.”
“What? A dad picking his kid up from school isn’t normal?”
“Sure it is,” Lee said. “Unless the said kid is trying to get intel on a potential terrorist who might be running the school.”
Winfield snorted. “Alright, I’ll give you that.”

“Alright, don’t tell anyone, but… I’m an undercover spy working for the US government. I have been since I was thirteen.”
“Wouldn’t that be more like an underage spy?” Matt said, laughing. “You don’t have to tell me, I was just wondering.”
Lee laughed. “Honest? I just like to know the most I can about a new place, that way I can try and stay out of trouble.”

“You two had better get going or you’re both going to be late for P.E.,” she said, motioning them down the hallway. “Step to it.”
“‘P.E.’?” Lee asked, frowning. “What’s that?”
“Physical Education, you moron,” the boy said. “Everyone knows that.”
Lee glared at him. “No one calls me a moron.”
“Then maybe you shouldn’t act like one.”
“Call me that again, and I promise you, you will regret it.”

Lee seemed to think about it. “You’re right, I won’t. But I will take your cut of the job as payment for not kill you. Doesn’t that sound fair?” Lee asked, running his gloved finger along the top of the gun.
The man glared at him. “You’re a fiend!” he spat.
Lee laughed. “Thank you. Now, never question my loyalties or my methods again,” Lee said, then he turned opened the window and tossed the gun out it.

“Fine, you want to know what really want down? I’ll tell you,” Lee stood up and turned to face the classroom. “There were also rumors that the thieves used a helicopter to drop onto the roof of the museum, but that was only the beginning…”

Winfield frowned as he took the cereal box and pour Lee out a bowl full. “Acutely, Lee has an above average IQ. He just doesn’t flaunt it.” Winfield studied Lee. “He’s like one of your computers, there’s a lot more going on underneath than you might think.”

Lee sighed. “Well, being attacked by a sniper is rarely fun.”
“Do I even want to know what you mean by that?” Winfield asked.
“Most likely not.”

Skipper snorted. “I’m here because apparently I’m a chauffeur now.”
“Didn’t you know it’s on the bottom of your job distribution?” Winfield asked, stepping through the doorway after Skipper.
Lee looked at Winfield, covered in mud from head-to-toe, and his eyes grew big. “What the heck happened to you?!” he cried.

“Yeah, and you know her father was a chef,” Lee said.
“How did you know that?” Jenny asked.
“I thought it was kind of obvious,” Lee said. “In the few days I’ve known you, you’ve critiqued every meal you’ve had. Yet I’ve heard Skipper say you’ve ‘burned water’ before, which I might have to point out you can’t really do. But hey, sayings like that get stuck in your head. Don’t they?”

Winfield rolled his eyes. She didn’t seem to be able to get it through her head that he was his son, no matter how many times he told her. Winfield heard a light tap and it was quiet, quiet. Had they muted the phone? he wondered, flipping on the windshield wiper as the rain began to come down.

Glancing back towards the wall where the bookshelf was hidden, Winfield told himself he’d tell Winnie everything when this was all over.
Hopefully it wasn’t too late by then.

Once again he was grateful for the Program’s tech.
Then again… it wouldn’t be the first time something had malfunctioned.
“Alright, now you are getting paranoid,” Lee mumbled to himself, shaking his head as he quickly dialed the number and pulled his necklace off. “This is Guardian Eagle. Security level: AA…”

“All the time!” Winfield growled. “He picks up women everywhere, and these stupid dating apps don’t help anything. One of these times he’s going to blow his cover and get us all killed. And for what? Because he wanted to go on a date with a lady he’ll never see again!”
“Maybe you could try the app sometime,” Lee said. “I’ve heard they allow old men like you on there.”

Progress on this book will be paused for the next month or so. My sister is getting a kidney transplant in Spokane and my mom and I have to go with her, so please keep us in your prayers.
