Status Updates From Estudios sobre historia ant...

Leafed back to read an article I had saved for later, ‘Greeks and their past in the Second Sophistic’, by E. L. Bowie, and it turned out to be one of the (several) really good contributions in this book. Great read.

Much to enjoy here, though a couple of the contributions were just so-so. I am relieved that nowadays few British writers of nonfiction writes in the style of one of the authors here: I am thinking of those long, intricate sentences, where it seems to be a rule to never use a period unless absolutely necessary, and preferably no more than two in an entire paragraph.

It may be that I end up reading only some of the essays in this book, but I enjoyed the first, 'Athenian Demagogues', and there are also other contributions here that I look forward to..
