a minor issue with the book is how much of the political discussions the protagonist takes part in, are speculations about the future of socialism and the cold war. 80% are uncannily prescient (from a ~1948 standpoint looking 20-30 years into the future), it becomes a bit annoying. Was the fate of state socialism really so predictable? Was this a conscious choice for MP or was he otherwise compelled?
