It’s kind of pat but I do appreciate that Boylston treats Sue and her student / probationary nurse peers with respect. They are framed as young professionals even tho the material culture has a very girls school / convent / armed forces hospital vibe. I don’t know if it’s 100% engaging with the contemporary New Woman identity of this era, but 4 me career progression and achievement is praised in a feminist way
