Status Updates From Call of the Kaiju

Wait, we're back to the kids now?
Giant robot was a flop?
Frick, this novel is all over the map. ~_~

Seriously, how often do I need to hear about this guy's boner or how limp his dick is?
SERIOUSLY?
And what about the kids? It's been a number of chapters now and we have no idea what's going on, and suddenly, giant robot. WTF?

Wow, more talk about boners and weapons of mass destruction. *yawn* Yes, we've got it about that character, no need to hammer it home.

And suddenly ANOTHER character is introduced, 705 into the novel!!
What the hell? Suddenly the kids are out of the picture and we've been introduced to 2 new protagonists. *throws hands into the air* Frick...

So here we are, 57% of the way into the book, and Marlowe suddenly introduces a NEW main character! WTF? Suddenly the book isn't about the kids who we've followed for most of the novel and spent the first quarter of the book learning about, but a lady who works for the Navy.

Monster shows up and I just don't care. Marlowe seems to be trying to use gross out gore to create horror rather than using more refined elements. I don't care about the characters and that is the heart to any Kaiju fiction.

When I was debating on purchasing this book, I read one glowing review.
I have since read a number of negative reviews that capture exactly what is wrong with this book. And there's a fair bit.

Starting to agree with the lower reviews on this one...

The first 20% of this book was character introductions, all for characters you could care less about and who you know are going to die. So it all feels kind of pointless. Still, that was the point, all in all, and there's a few characters you can sympathise with.

I am really struggling with this book. Way too sexual for children- but I like monsters!

Right now, I'm reading about a lot of school-aged kids that aren't very likable. I'm sure it'll get better, but wow... I don't like any of them.
