Status Updates From Vineland

I'm beginning to see how you're supposed to understand the works of Pynchon(?)
there's a few techniques repeated from book to book, one that atm I call "story history zoom", where you're zoomed in and out of different layers of history.
His humor is also repeated book to book, it kind of sneaks up on you until all at once you're cackling to yourself going "oh man, can' tell if that's pretty smart or real dumb!"

This is definitely a Pynchon book! Multi-layered sentences, mentions of a character that expand to paragraphs into pages of backstory that in themselves, are short stories. All this adding together to create the overall story we're supposed to understand. Though this time, most of the references are from the past 50-70 years, so I have some clue of what's happening
