I read the poem about The Christmas Star. That poem literally saved my life, and I’ve kept it ever since.”
“Max was the one who determined where the boxes went. He must’ve found out that you were having a tough time.” “But I only met him once,” Gabe countered. She gave him a tender smile. “Once was all it took.

“Where is my daughter! Tell me!” Her screams nearly wrenched Gabe to pieces. He stepped up and put his arms around her, helping her to her feet. She turned and buried her face in his chest. He stood there, letting her cry. Finally, she looked up at him. “I’m never going to find her, am I?”

If this nut job killed Max, then every cliche will have been included in this book. Finance boy can mess with planes too?

“The feelings I have for you are real. I never meant to fall in love with you, but that’s what happened,” Gabe said earnestly. Love. He said he loved her. She realized at that moment that she’d had the beginnings of the same feelings for him too. If he’d told her the truth last night then they might’ve had a chance, but now …

Quit ASSuming! He LOOKED homeless but I don't think he actually ever said he was and they never ask outright. This whole conversation with the police sergeant is driving me nuts!

He never said he worked specifically for the SLC police department! He said he was Gabe Jones from Idaho, and used to be a detective. Jill should have tried Google 1st like a normal person.

Jake had no idea who he was dealing with , as if a photo would scare him away from Chancy. He’d known his feelings for her ran deep, but tonight, when she came back and took her seat in the concert. When he saw the haunted look on her face, her tight lips, he knew that he would brave the depths of hell to keep her safe.

“Tonight, when I broke things off , he told me I was making a big mistake.” Gabe’s eyes went hard. “He threatened you?” She thought back. “Yes … no …” She hugged her arms. “I don’t know.” He searched her face. “Did you feel threatened when he said it?” She nodded slowly. “Yes, I saw a side of him tonight that scared me.

“I’m sorry,” she sniffed. “It’s okay. I understand.” Their eyes locked, and she realized, with a start, that he really did understand. The distance between them seemed to shrink, and in that moment she felt a connection with him— a deep connection that can only come when one truly understands the depth of another’s sorrow.

It wasn’t until after Jill left that Chancy remembered what it was that was bothering her the night before. She’d told Jill that she disabled the alarm after she let Jake in, but that’s not what happened. Jake was the one that disabled the alarm. How did he know the code? She’d never given it to him, had she?

Why does Jake know the alarm code? Can't believe she told him when they have only dated a few months and her husband has only been dead for 10 months. And she better ask why is he there at 3 a.m.

His hands began to shake, and then cool precision took over. It would all be over soon. He wondered if it would hurt too terribly. With any luck, he wouldn’t feel a thing. He lifted the pistol to his temple. His hand started shaking again. “Oh God, please forgive me,” he mumbled. The doorbell rang. He swallowed hard. Cocked the pistol.
