I think it's quite a male thing, this appropriation and desire for ownership. A control over what is normally uncontrollable.

Hunting is a widespread disease that shows no signs of responding to treatment.

CERI: I love the different collective nouns for birds such as a committee of vultures. I start imagining all sorts of other things that could use a collective noun. What about collaborators?
RALPH: You could have a scratch of collaborators, a bitch of collaborators, or just the two of us would be a both of collaborators! Look there, I see a grump of elephants!
CERI: What would a group of artists be? It could

Teeny Spint
Eencius weencius
I wonder where the second bird is and suddenly I notice it by the magpie's foot. It is tiny, hence it's name, the Teeny Spint, which must never be confused with a Little Stint. In fact, if you do confuse it with a stint the spint will have something to say and may end up pecking you very hard wherever it may be able to reach - usually somewhere around the little toe area. Spints are

And there perched on top of a fiscal cliff is a Spoon-billed Sandpiper. A fiscal cliff? Ralph has likened this bird's existence to the parlous state of the financial world. This is a precarious position for a small beautiful bird to find itself in, as it stares down into the dark sea below it. The irony being that if our world of fat bankers and fiscal servants chose to, they could save the majority of the world's

He is a hunter who seems to be a throwback to the Dark Ages and has no place in the modern world, which is how I feel about all hunters. From my perspective, there is no reason for hunting to be considered a sport - how can it be a worthwhile hobby to take a creature's life for one's own entertainment and amusement? Is it impossible to simply watch and enjoy what's left of our wildlife and not reduce the

Kevinio is a heartless monster of a man who is actually afraid of worms, snakes and eels. Other than that he is fearless and only has to worry about his Achilles 'eel occasionally. He likes to tell of his sea-faring ancestors but there is no connection at all. He is a charlatan, as was his father before him. As one can see by the cowering Madagascar Chickens in the background, birds are 'afeared of him' and try

Somewhere is a place; it can be a dark space, where forgotten birds and knowledge about them are held, where reality is lost or hidden from our minds. Somewhere can be like a black hole, where things, thoughts and species are mislaid and often found. Somewhere can rip through the world as we know it. Somewhere can be nowhere that is tangible.

"A strutting raucous bird with a squawk that breaks and screeches like a scrap yard crusher - or the laughter of an audience with chronic bronchitis erupting in an aircraft hanger..."

We want to gently massage the message down throats that we can save creatures.... As for the birds, since the year 1500, 140 species have become extinct.
