To think about yourself less, you need to stop thinking less of yourself.

You aren’t dust, but you aren’t divine. You are made in the image of God. You are a miracle, but Creation does not rely on you.

Why do we work to be formed in the image of God? It’s for the sake of others. So we can love who the world tells us to hate, forgive who the world tells us to resent, and serve who the world tells us to ignore.

Worship is “an act of ascribing ultimate value to something or someone.” For us, worship should mean life with God at the center.

After the devil tempted Jesus with the world, Jesus said, “Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.”

The ultimate antidote to an addiction to self-image is to take up your vocation as a person made in God’s image - to worship the One who created you.

The problem with expressive individualism isn’t that you’re an individual or that you express yourself. The problem is that you begin your search for meaning with the self. If the starting point for your identity is you, you’ll end up obsessing over self-image instead of reflecting God’s image.

When its on you, you anxiously obsess over self-image.
When it’s on God, you joyfully reflect His image.

We were created to reflect God’s glory. But when we put self at the center of the story, we became obsessed with our own glory. We traded in God’s image for self-image.

Love became fear. And fear causes us to perform. To lie to those around us in an attempt to prove how amazing we are. It’s exhausting.

Lord, free me from me.
