Okay, it was a *little* slow in the beginning. But that is the ONLY CRITICISM I WILL TAKE ABOUT THIS BOOK.

Also, really quick... Everyone's opinion is valid. (Okay, this goes for *most* people. We both know that there are some bad, bad, mean apples out there.) BUT! This book deserves nothing but praise. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. 🤷‍♀️
But I have a feeling that for the people who didn't like this, it simply wasn't for them. 🐇
But anyway, GOOOO T. KINGFISHER MY NEW FAVORITE AUTHOR.

The scene where they were inspecting the hare? I'm sorry, it was hilarious... But in all seriousness, this is a masterpiece. T. Kingfisher is an absolute powerhouse and now I need all of her books.
Also, this is going on my "best reads of 2026 list" for sure. 🤸🤸

Madeline fucking walked her ass out of the catacombs coming back to life and Denton and Easton went to look for her and found her in Roderick's room on his bed.

Everyone gathered in the house to figure out the mystery of Maddy and Roderick didn't want to say anything. Then they ended up killing a hare to dissect it and it came back to life even after being cut open and Miss Potter said that sometimes fungi can regenerate rapidly and that must've been what happened. The hares lungs were filled with hyphae. The lake then started to glow again and they were going to find out.

Easton spoke with Miss Potter more about mushrooms and the beginning of micro ones and she told him that they would look like little white hairs... just like the ones on Maddy! So he took her to usher house to have her look and Madeline's body in the crypt but when they got there, her body was gone.
