sometimes there is a jump between chapters in context, scenery, knowledge etc that just really feels like the author forgot to put a chapter in there

It does get better when the author is writing dialogue rather than a scene, but it’s a pretty slow book just because the writing lacks urgency. I have a strong inclination this started as Kikyo/Inuyasha fanfic because Emika just reads as Kikyo to me. Mu might have Inuyasha’s white hair and yellow eyes, but his personality is kinda flaccid.

The very stilted workmanlike prose lacks the flair that the premise on the back of the book would suggest. It’s very passive and I think a 1st POV would’ve helped a lot even though I tend to hate first person. Emika is hard to relate to or care about because the writing feels so distant and strange. The story itself is fine but needed some…pizazz

It sure was a choice to open the book talking about how boring the character’s life is and big shocker it made for a boring opening!

The illustrations are in color in kindle at least and might be worth reading on the kindle phone or pc app because they’re pretty
