Important disclaimer about Sheehan’s interpretive angle: his work, both early and late, was not about “being” as Western philosophy has understood that term for over twenty-five hundred years, but rather about sense itself: meaningfulness and its source.

Heidegger, in the tradition of Augustine’s distentio est vita mea, calls this kinetic stretched-out-ness of ex-sistence by the potentially misleading term “temporality.” ... a stretched-open expanse, which is finite insofar as it is open and thus bound up with unrealized possibilities.

No part of this is “potentially” misleading, this is actually misleading!
