Status Updates From Faces in the Water

i like how sometimes she leaves the commas out between a list of three single words. it's sort of comforting and calming. the narrator seems to have depression, she says things like "you learned not to cry in company" (to avoid ECT). i think most of the patients she talks about would be out in the community if it was set today

oh i like this, these are my people. just finished chapter 3. "Poor Noeline, who was waiting for Dr. Howell to propose to her although the only words he had even spoken to her were How are you? Do you know where you are? Do you know why you are here? - phrases which ordinarily would be hard to interpret as evidence of affection" (ha!) before getting demoted to the disturbed ward. frame's observations are interesting

she's seen her card, it reads 'impulsive and dangerous'. she doesn't seem to be but what can you do? once it is decided then you are stuck

even though it's fiction i'm glad she was a writer and able to record the experience

am inching through this. it's good, i understand this. the narrator was a teacher but now has been sectioned. if she was alive i would write to her

well i like this so far "a great gap opened in the ice floe between me and other people" or "i like to eat caramello chocolate because i was lonely" but something is just not *right* atm and for some reason it's difficult to read and i long to go back to when it was effortless bc how can reading be hard? :( i don't know what's happening but will take this bit by bit
