The technical descriptions are difficult to follow, but it is interesting to read about the spread of African music into the US.

Technical descriptions are over my head, but the history of World Music is largely constituted by Black Music, no doubt.

Unfocused. Is this a memoir or a technical musical text or a diatribe or what?
So far he does appear to be laying the foundation for his premise in the title. Very slowly. Oh, and he goes on diatribes about western music and notation not capturing the vibe of Black music but denigrating it. A paragraph would be enough but chapters are full of it.
