Go into the cities and it was lost; but look again at the faces of stonemasons working on a church in, say, Stratford or Kineton, and there was something ancient in those faces, an angularity, a light in the tone of the flesh that mirrored the hazy magic landscape.

BBC Radio Kent is playing Terence Trent D'arby in this book. I bet next up was Roachford with "Cuddly Toy." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UH1SP...

"When the door of the pub opened, it let in a wave of cool air, touching the faces of the drinkers in the saloon bar who had been there since half-past seven and reminding them that it was half-past ten."

Already the prose reminds me of a glass of good scotch: let it sit in your mouth for awhile before consuming fully.
