Absolutely loving this.
I love a book that describes organised religion as basically toxic and I just loved the references in here about Mary Magdalene 🤭

Dark grim atmosphere but inside and outside of the forest. Currently perfection.

Is this book just a metaphor for toxic relationships? What happened to looking for her sister and trying to learn magic?

The writing is SO beautiful. I don't gravitate towards dark or gothic stories often, but this one has been an enjoyable read. The only thing I'm a little hung up on is... Why? Why did death take her in? Why is she so powerful but so ignorant? Where is her sister? A lot of unanswered questions to have over a third of the way in!

Ive literally never been so bummed while reading about magic miss girl cannot catch a break this is depressing as shit.
1. Dad drowns her mom
2. She gets sent off to the village healer but then she gets burned at the stake for being a witch
3. Then she’s at a convent enduring abuse from the nuns and the visiting priests
4. Now she’s run away and ends up being a prostitute

Why does it feel like I’ve been reading FOR-EV-ER but I’m not even halfway finished?!?
There are some really interesting parts and then they’re over and it’s this weird push and pull of my interest 🥴
