So much reconciliation between Sky’s “parents,” Claire, and Ryan.

The celebration/graduation surprise and gift from his mom was too little, too late, although I wish there was slightly more recognition from Sky to her for that once acknowledgement. He doesn’t have to forgive her necessarily, but still.

Ryan’s panic over being the one causing the hurt and explicitly not wanting to inflict that on Sky is just… 🥹

This book really nails the feeling of being a bystander in the company of others, given what we've seen of Sky watching Ryan, Ben, and Evan talk, yet still welcome to the clique. Even if there's not much for the person to add to a discussion, his inclusion is still sweet, even if he thinks of himself as damaged goods.

Speaking of, how do furries have sex with multiple furries without concern for STDs/STIs, or do they not exist in-universe?

Sky and Ry’s bond comes from them feeling like they’re the only ones holding their families together, despite the familial troubles Sky had growing up, and the familial troubles Ry is having now.

Also, “Shiver down my spine” is quite a prominent phrase in this book.

Fuck man.

Ryan doesn’t think he’s good enough for Sky since he supposedly isn’t cut out for college, Sky thinking Ryan needs to be “saved” from his familial situation the same way he “saved” himself from his, especially since he’s nervous about being in a family he wish he had, so much to unpack after that break up…

The frustration and confusion Ryan gets from mathy word problems is so tangible, it catapulted me into memories of having my ass turned inside out with a leather rope for failing to understand similar questions on assignments.

Also, Ryan having to be strong for Skyler’s sake to where he’s almost neglecting his own well being. Let’s see how else Skyler reciprocates his love for Ry.

Overbearing characters who border on breaking a bond between a tight pair grind my gears, but Claire might be an exception.

Insulting his mother was kind of low though…

Skylar absolutely does deserve Ryan. He’ll just need a way to give back to him somehow while not getting imposter syndrome from his own familial life convince him otherwise.

Closeted gayness, endless self blame and hatred for divorced parents, feeling powerless to any incoming, conflicting forces, leaving him to just accept whatever comes his way, no matter how good or bad, no clue what to make of himself… it’s all coming together now. Sky needs a way to stand up for himself eventually.

Thank god for Mrs. Gunnerson.

First time in a long time I’ve seen an intriguing unreliable narrator. Thus far, Sky doesn’t know who he is or what he wants, so he’s just letting things happen to him; judging from what little of his childhood we’ve seen, he likely can’t handle genuine relationships, especially with his parents, so he’s lets people take advantage of him without knowing it, even if it’s evil, like Greg raping him…

Only a few minutes in, and I love Skylar and Ryan reassuring, wholesome, considerate dynamic. Also bracing myself for the metric ton of incoming sex scenes.
