Modern society seems to have shifted from directly living as authentically as possible to living vicariously through representations of experience.
Life becomes an accumulation of spectacles. Images separate from lived reality, and the spectacle becomes a social relationship mediated by these images. In this way the spectacle makes people spectators of their own pseudo-worlds. It’s “separation perfected”.
