No one writes gothic fantasy the way A.G. Slatter does!

Well it’s an amazing book, I have missed some of the stories as they feel a bit too scary at the time. I know I will go back to them when it’s not night time. I think the writing is amazing and I’m still enjoying reading the notes about each story at the end. I think I want to read the other books by this author but I’m also scared to read the other books by this author!

Loving this book of dark, gothic short stories. I read full size novels from this universe that was written after these stories, and I get excited when I recognize a character!

Oh dear, three stories in and I am completely and utterly in love. This book, so far is so well written, the three stories whilst short are so elaborately creative with an obviously similar tone it is like reading a book set in one magical universe. Some darker than others, I think or that might just be my perspective. I would struggle to read more than two or even one story a day. This is a book to savour.

I am enjoying this so much! I read this author's full length novels before reading her short stories (which were previously published in smaller compilations). I recognize some of the main characters in these short stories that were mentioned (either briefly or as side characters) in her full length books. Even the stories who do not contain familiar characters are so wonderfully dark & Gothic. This is such a treat!

I don’t think I can stress it enough, Slatter js a brilliant writer. Carefully crafting prose that weaves some of the most original folk inspired fairy tales, each with its on warning. She’s solidified her place as one of my favorite authors.
Vampires, witches, merfolk, animated dolls, green ladies all supporting a cast of strong, intelligent female main characters.
