Status Updates From A Plagued Sea

I can’t believe this was written/conceived of pre-covid… or right around the first lockdown… it’s an incredibly short, yet profound statement (and I haven’t even hit the end of the mere 100 pages). A mix of Lovecraft with the hysteria of contagion, and infused with a locational fear (if you will) that being from a place dictates who or what you are. I’m utterly stunned…

”I swung my knee into the monster’s crotch with all my might. The fact that they didn’t print how vulnerable that dangling organ is on the first page of first-year elementary school textbooks speaks volumes about how this world is tailored for the comfort of men.”

I like how even a dystopian-ish horror book can manage to get a great dig in, so eloquently no less, on the patriarchy.
