Miscommunication resolved. The book is saved…?

I have adored this book so far: fun magic, tense mystery, cozy romance, and dead-on anxiety depiction. But of course it was too good to be true - just after the halfway mark, we MUST have a contrived miscommunication, that horrible hallmark of the romance genre.

I'm so upset but I'm going to try and power through.

“The fatalist portion of his brain, confounded by the day’s positive turn, tried to lodge a few reservations and cautions, but he put up a mental hand, saying, ‘Nope, let me enjoy this for a few minutes,” and it slunk away.”

This is so cozy!

Ouch, this one might be a challenging personal read!
