Status Updates From Trial of Gods

“I don’t care, can’t you see? I’d do anything for you, including laying down my life if it meant getting you what you desired.” -Xavian 🥹🤍

“Princess…” My voice was rough, torn between restraint and everything I felt. “I’m not going anywhere.”
She only held tighter, sobbing into the hollow of my throat. I sat on the edge of the bed, keeping her in my lap. And for once-just once- I let myself hold her like she was mine. Not the kings. Not a symbol. Not the light bearer or a weapon or a pawn.
Mine.

“So… I’m handsome?” - xavian

When I finally dared to look up, Xavian was already watching me. I had never seen eyes more shattered than his- not even in my own reflection.
His footsteps slowly made their way in my direction. When he stopped before me, his hands hovered for a moment before he cautiously cupped my face. Brushed a tear.
Without a word, he pulled the fur cloak from his shoulders and wrapped it around me.

“Were you planning to change my guards?”
“I was thinking of tripling them, actually”
“I don’t want more. Just him.”
“You want to take my right hand for yourself?”
“Yes.”
a long pause.
“Fine. He’s yours. For now.”
AHHHHHHHHH

My body leaned back on its own until I felt a firm, warm chest against my back. I straightened up.
“Go to sleep.” He said, sternly
“I am trying. My eyes are closed.”
He pulled me backward and I felt the heat of his chest against my back again. “Try harder,” he urged me.

Only a couple chapters in but I fear this book was in desperate need of a good editor 😬 I like the concept so I’m going to keep going but there’s been a lot of missing substance or depth to characters or just odd interactions that don’t quite make sense.
