I think what Jess doesn’t understand is that Alex can’t have love without being able to provide financial stability for herself because she grew up poor. For Jess it’s hard to understand because he grew up extremely wealthy and he’s very generous with his parents wealth. Love without Security means absolutely nothing, which is why Alex has made the decision to go and study arts in Paris.

This book is really intriguing. I understand Alex’s decision to not pursue a relationship with Jess because of her financial instability. The fact that the Mason list actually refers to how much that she owes justice family is very intriguing and enjoying. Sometimes charity, although it is a saving grace can also feel like a chokehold.

Hmm, so far so meh.
I don't see the point of shifting between 'today' and the past when we have no clue what happens 'today'.
I also don't feel like I'm reading an 8, 10 and 12 year-old girl's thoughts, they seem way too grown-up. And everything is over-the-top dramatic. I mean, I love drama, but it's a lot with rattlesnakes and tree house fires. So, right now, I'm not buying what the author is selling.
