Status Updates From Les dieux ont soif

Increasingly convinced that any assessment of this book hinges entirely on how much you like or dislike Brotteaux. I unfortunately despise him.

Im SUPPOSED to hate Evariste. But no matter how many times you tell me he is a monster now all I have seen him do is be a biased juror, flawed investigator, and have rough sex with his girl.

I know Brotteaux is supposed to be the author self-insert protagonist, but I've never wanted a guy to get guillotined so badly in my life. He talks like a fucking Redditor, "Oh I'm an atheist, I don't need sky daddy to tell me to be a good person" ass bullshit commentary.

Chapter 10 was the most insane sub plot in the midst of what I can only describe as 18th century Redditor talk. The random Werther drop on 121 was amazing meta humor (I hope).

The first 36 or so pages are just foreword and to be frank I dont really know that it requires all of that. If you have any vague historical context it is extremely easy to read and characters just basically say their feelings point blank. Its actually super modern in that way!
