i like eva of the lost cat 'who seemed to believe that her cat could sense her love, and that this love was so powerful it would hear her call and wherever it was it would run towards her love'
i mean i get it, obviously eva is deluded, the cat has freely left with no intention of returning but her warding off reality/loss/grief and holding onto hope for as long as possible is very human

WAIT. THIS IS FICTION!
Damn it! This seemed like non-fic but then I thought the bohemian friends with the wildly interesting backstories and knowledge of stein were a bit too convenient and checked and there just before the epigraph it literally says "a fiction". i feel slightly cheated which is not fair to the author when it was my misunderstanding but really... not even autofiction? i have feelings about this

well! fanny is suddenly more interesting to me having left home so early and not spoken to her father for decades after her whopper about what a great relationship she had with her parents. this book started slowly but now i'm HOOKED. they are also quite varying ages which surprised me, her friends are much younger. they're all very well off it seems but then again looks can be deceiving

re-read the extract from the making of americans again this morning. my god. it's perfect. it can stand alone as a short story that has a beginning middle and end. and it conveys what it needs to in such a sophisticated way. i really like this

just got to the extract from 'the making of americans' and now need to read it as it may be my cup of tea. i didn't fall into this straight away but it unexpectedly caught all of a sudden and now i've read a huge chunk. it's very calming to be following someone else's internal thoughts when they are like this
