Status Updates From Petrichor (Mafia Babes #1)

One of the few enjoyable things about this book is the refreshing lack of a "homophobia in the mafia" sub-plot. The most we get is the arguably minor queer queer awakening panic in the form of "this doesn't make sense - I've never been attracted to guys before, and I don't seem to be attracted to these other guys I'm purposefully looking at now".

I think I realized part of the issue - so far I give very few shits about Marco. Enzo and Tom, and most other MM characters I've come across, we're fundamentally likeable, but Marco is just a grumpy grump even to the listener.

Halfway through, and while what little spice there's been so far has been very much up my alley (and they even managed to mix up the cliché "swallow" bit), and the voice acting is on point, for the most part I've just been bored with the story. The most interesting thing so far has probably been the hangout with Fly and Art at the café. It's funny because Fallen Rook proved it's not that I don't like mafia stories.

It's hard to to talk about my frustrations about this scene without spoiling anything or being ENTIRELY too vague, but... You want to leave the decision up to Fly, and then you do something that basically makes doing that thing much harder? Seems... unwise. Can't you hold off until he can make said decision?

Well shit, no opinion yet on J. Tipstone during emotional or comedy scenes, but he seems to be more than Mac Rae's equal during spice scenes. I love how he puts his full physicality into the internal monologue, not just the dialogue.

Just bought myself a year's e-membership to the Queens Public Library in NY for $50, giving me access to Hoopla, and this is my first listen on it! =D MOAR MAC RAE!!!
