A start to a relaxin weekend

The two things that I don't like about this book aren't going to put me off entirely but it's just like "ah that's too bad you made that choice, author".

I'm just going along really enjoying this, and then suddenly BAM bad science all over the place that is clearly an underpinning for a character's entire arc. How am I supposed to believe a celebrated ecologist thinking about how humans are connected with nature hasn't read any of the literature that exists on the topic (and on her specific questions)? Descartes is a ruiner and I'll never forgive him.
