Status Updates From Edmund Spenser's The Faerie...

Book Four, Canto Twelve, where Marinell hears the lament of Florimell (the real one) and falls in love with her. While many fall in love with Florimell when they see her, Marinell falls in love with her when he hears her heart, her lament. He cannot save her, so he wastes away in heartbreak. His mother, finds out that her son is in love, and beseeches Neptune for a remedy, and is granted Florimell's freedom.

Book Four, Canto Eleven, wherein Marinell's wound from Book III is healed, and he arrives with his mother at the Hall of Proteus for the wedding of Thames and the Medway - where Florimell (the real one) is imprisoned. Most of this chapter is an epic list of the guests coming to the wedding.

Book Four, Canto Ten, wherein Scudamour tells his story, explaining his quest for virtuous Amoret, the adopted daughter of Venus. He goes to the Temple of Venus, battles twenty knights for the Shield of Love, then enters the temple, passing all the gate guardians boldly and resolutely, to find Amoret amid the virtues of womanhood. He takes Amoret's hand and leads her from the Temple, claiming her as his true love.

Book Four, Canto Nine, wherein the Squire of Low Degree, Amyas, is freed and reunited with his love, Æmylia, and his look-alike friend, Placidas, marries the wanton Pœana (Amyas' captor), turning her into a good woman. Meanwhile, Prince Arthur takes Amoret with him, and they find Britomart and Scudamour beset by four knights, so Arthur helps him. Oddly, Scudamour and Amoret aren't given a reuniting scene.

Book Four, Canto Eight, wherein Timias is forgiven. Meanwhile, Arthur finds Æmylia and Amoret where they have been hiding in the forest after Timias and Belphœbe abandoned them for no good reason. Arthur takes the girls with him, and they shelter in the cottage of Slaunder, who accuses the girls of being whores and Arthur a philanderer. Corflambo the giant chases squire Placidas, but the giant is slain by Arthur.

Book Four, Canto Seven, wherein Amoret is carried off by an ogre consumed with lust, but Belphœbe rescues her and two other women held by the ogre: Æmylia and an old hag. Arthur's former squire, Timias, accidentally shows that he cares for Amoret (who is, unknown to all, Belphœbe's twin sister), which pisses Belphœbe off. Shamed, Timias goes off to live life as a wildman of the forest.

Book Four, Canto Six, wherein Scudamour and Artegall battle Britomart. Artegall sees Britomart's face when he knocks the visor off of her helmet and he falls in love with her. Britomart and Artegall become engaged, but Artegall still has a quest to fulfill, so he must part with Britomart for a while, but he promises to return.

Book Four, Canto Five, wherein the various ladies vie for the belt of Florimell, and False Florimell ends up with it though Amoret is the only one who can wear it. Scudamour arrives at the House of Care, where the smiths forge only iron wedges, which are unquiet thoughts that invade troubled minds, showing how invasive thoughts can keep one from sleeping.

Book Four, Canto Four, wherein the tournament for Florimell's belt is held. The battles are intense, with much back and forth between Satyrane's team (the Knights of the Maidenhood) and Bruncheval's team (Blandamour, Paridell, Braggadocchio, and Triamond). On the second day, Cambell replaces Triamond because Triamond is wounded. On the third day, Artegall arrives and trounces everyone, but Britomart takes him out.

Book Four, Canto Three, wherein three brothers battle Cambell for his sister's hand. Cambell kills the first brother by stabbing him in his throat, and his life fled into the second brother. Cambell kills the second brother by cutting off his head, and both lives fled into the third brother. Cambell kills the third brother two times, but he rises, until Cambina, sister of the three brothers, arrives to bring peace.

Book Four, Canto Two, wherein Blandamour defeats Sir Ferraugh and wins the False Florimell. Blandamour and Paridell come to blows over her, while Duessa and Ate egg them on. The Squire of Dames arrives and shames them into a pretend friendship, telling them of Satyrane's tournaments. Blandamour and Paridell encounter Cambell and Triamond with their loves, Canacee and Cambina. Then we learn some background on them.

Book Four, Canto One, where Britomart and Amoret (who believes Britomart is male) travel, and Amoret, who is a wedded but unbedded wife, worries that she might have to be unfaithful because she owes this knight her life and loyalty. They travel to a castle, have a battle, and Britomart reveals her femininity, to Amoret's relief. Duessa arrives again, with Ate, Paridell, and Blandamour. There are several fights.

Book Three, Canto Twelve, where Britomart watches the masque of Cupid unfold in front of her. Britomart uses her wits to find Amoret and the wizard. He frees Amoret and captures the wizard. She leads them out of the castle, but Glauce (Britomart's squire) and Scudamour were not waiting for them - they had gone seeking additional help. This is the end of Book Three.

Book Three, Canto Eleven, where Britomart chases the giant Ollyphant and finds Scudamour in the forest. Scudamour is distressed by the capture of his love, so Britomart offers to help. They go to the castle of the wizard Busirane, and Britomart makes her way through Vulcan's fire to find tapestries depicting Cupid's triumphs, a golden statue of Cupid, and words telling her to be bold - but not too bold.

Book Three, Canto Ten, wherein Paridell steals Hellenore away from Malbecco. Malbecco pursues them, and meets Braggadocchio (and Trompart). Malbecco travels with Braggadocchio, seeking Paridell and Hellenore. Paridell abandons Hellenore in the forest, where she takes up with the lusty satyrs. Braggadocchio and Trompart steal Malbecco's gold, and Hellenore refuses to leave the satyrs. Malbecco hides in a cave.

Book Three Canto Nine, where the Squire of Dames and Paridell are refused entry into Malbecco's castle because he's afraid his wife will fall in love with newcomers. Paridell arrives, jousts with Britomart, and the four of them manage to get into the castle, where the wife falls in love with Paridell, and vice versa.

Book Three, Canto Eight, where the Witch creates a lady out of snow and makes it look like Florimell to seduce her son. Unfortunately, the son loses the fake Florimell to Braggadochio, who in turn loses her to an unknown knight. The real Florimell is almost raped by an old fisherman, but rescued by the sea god Proteus, who falls in love and imprisons her. Sir Paridell, Satyrane, and the Squire of Dames join forces.

Book Three, Canto Seven, where Florimell meets a witch, and the witch's son fall in love with her, so Florimell flees again - and the witch sets a monster to chase after her. Florimell jumps into a boat and escapes, but her horse dies. Satyrane, the nature knight, sees the death of the horse and tames the beast, but then a giantess battles him. Satyrane frees the Squire of Dames, but loses the beast.

Book Three, Canto Six, where Belphœbe's origin is explored. She has a sister named Amoret. Basically, a faerie named Chrysogone was laying around naked, and the sun impregnated her. She had twins, Belphœbe and Amoret. Chrysogone birthed them in her sleep, and they were found and taken by Diana and Venus. Diana kept Belphœbe, and Venus gave Amoret to Psyche to foster. We also get to explore the Garden of Adonis.

Book Three, Canto Five, wherein Arthur meets a dwarf who used to serve the woman he pursues; they join forces to find Florimell. But Timias, Arthur's Squire, who ran off to hunt the forester who was trying to rape Florimell, is ambushed by the Forester and his brothers. Timias kills them but is sorely wounded, but is is rescued by Belphœbe. Belphœbe heals him of his hurt, but Timias falls in unfortunate love.

Book Three, Canto Four: Britomart finds the shore in her quest for Artegall, but finds celibate Marinell guarding the shore (because it is full of riches). They battle, and Britomart wins, leaving Marinell for dead and ignoring the riches. Marinell's nymph mother and her friends find him and realize he is just mostly dead, and they take him into the sea to heal him. Meanwhile Arthur is vexed by the falling of night.
