I was an essential worker (not a cashier) during the pandemic. I envied people who could do their work remotely and thus minimize their chances of catching the virus, especially pre-vaccine days.

I’m very surprised that at the supermarket she worked at there were baggers to bag the groceries for the shoppers, even in 2021/2022. In China where labor is relatively cheap, shoppers do their own bagging for decades.
Weighing everything on a scale at self checkout is very stressful and confusing. Luckily I only experienced it once in a small town in Portugal last year.
