Status Updates From Togetherness: Symbiosis and...

Just finished part II and how the idea of symbiosis is more accepted to be a thing that intertwines with Darwinism instead of how it can be used to oppose the ideas of it. Looking forward to part III that talks about how these ideas can be used to help us as a society and planet!

The book started of very zoomed into certain organisms which i liked to learn about in part I. Now as i read in part II it is moving towards a greater and holistic look at symbiosis on the planet as a whole which is very interesting and i am enjoying reading. it’s zooming out in a way that is engaging and i look forward to how far this will go!

135 pages in and this is excellent. Lichens, Orchids, Ants, Fungi, Coral, and a surprising amount of Darwin so
far. Now covering endosymbiosis.

I know Darwin's research has done a lot for science, but it's becoming more apparent throughout this book how much damage he's done by inadvertently influencing eugenics.

So what im getting is art and philosophy were the precursor to STEM and formed the ideas that science can now prove, so the arts are kind of a science. My brain is breaking.

Either I forgot all of high school biology, or I never read the chapter, but how did I not know that mitochondria and chloroplasts evolved from prokaryotic cells that were absorbed by eukaryotic cells?

The Last of Us was right. We should be freaked out by fungus. You're telling me trees communicate and share nutrients with each other through webs of fungus that connect their roots? Also, some termites don't actually eat wood they just break it down to feed to fungus so that they can farm it to eat? Crazy stuff

Ok, only on the introduction, but the idea that we view nature and evolution as promoted by competition rather than symbiosis because the world favours a capitalist mentality over a communist mentality is blowing my mind.

I’m loving it so far, it is so interesting to see how symbiosis has evolved (no pun intended) over time from the rise of Darwinism and the disregard for his early ideas of symbiosis in the origin of life to how we know it now!
