That dynamic with Broder is so real. It’s obnoxiously real.

So we’re back. Just had to process some personal stuff. I’m clearly not reading romances for a while.
Anyways. I do feel for Tess here. I abhor that village mindset of venomous badmouthing. It makes me loose my shit. It’s disgusting, vile, unfair. In most cases it’s just about hearsay… and targets anything that breaks a bit of the mould… mix that with the conservative social structures and… whatever.

“I saw myself in that avarice, the drowned thing that had crawled out of the pond and sworn not to be less sinful or more cautious, but to take what she wanted without apology. People did not expect such a thing, from a woman or a fawn; we were both meant to be prey, both meant to be grateful simply for being allowed to survive.”

Well that’s quite the contrast here. David seeking help at Tess house, Tess going to Zeke’s to put a curse.

That exchange is quite sad because of all the interconnections and possibilities.

Reclusive wildlife rehabber/witch is my dream job. Devil/lack-of-soul and all.

I’m wondering if the writer knows how Tess looks like there. The fact that she used the term “addict” in that sequence tells me that she does.
Which makes me even more curious about where this is going.

It just hit me and it seems quite obvious now.
The point is not the symbol/metaphor, it’s what it triggers in the characters. What they see about themselves. Just like when I draw cards in a sense, or when I read.
The symbol can be obviously for the readers to make sense. It just adds another recursive symbolism where empathy takes more room in the process.

I wouldn’t mind being visited by the devil if it meant I could live in a wildlife sanctuary

Small reality check with Paul leaving since I’m also planning to leave where I am now…
But I’m leaving the city to go abroad in a kinda rural town. Monte de bois here I come ! In a few months fingers crossed.

The beginning is cautiously dry. Easy to read through in a flash, it feels alluring. Which makes sense from what I can tell. There is some lore there poking through.
